چکیده

A series of sodium iron germanate glasses, with general composition 0.3Na2O±xFe2O3±(0.7 ) x)GeO2 (06 x6 0:15), has been prepared by conventional melting and casting. The chemical states of the various elemental components have been investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) from fracture surfaces produced in situ. The analysis of the Fe 3p core level spectra of the glasses which contain iron oxide revealed the presence of both Fe2‡ and Fe3‡ oxidation states, with the proportion of the Fe3‡ ions found to increase with increasing Fe2O3 content. The O 1s spectra also show composition-dependent changes, with the fraction of non-bridging oxygen atoms also increasing with iron oxide content. Direct current magnetic susceptibility and magnetisation (M) vs magnetic ®eld (H) measurements were also performed on the same samples. The magnetic data support the conclusion that the exchange interaction is antiferromagnetic and increases with increasing Fe2O3 content. The fraction of Fe 2‡ ions determined from XPS was found to be in good agreement with values obtained from ®tting the M vs H data with a standard Brillouin function. Ó 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (XAFS) Studies of Oxide Glasses—A 45-Year Overview

X-ray Absorption Fine Structure (XAFS) spectroscopy has been widely used to characterize the short-range order of glassy materials since the theoretical basis was established 45 years ago. Soon after the technique became accessible, mainly due to the existence of Synchrotron laboratories, a wide range of glassy materials was characterized. Silicate glasses have been the most studied because the...

Morphology and Magnetic Properties of Ferriferous Two-Phase Sodium Borosilicate Glasses

This contribution is devoted to the study of morphology and magnetic properties of sodium borosilicate glasses with different concentrations (15, 20, and 25 wt.%) of α-Fe2O3 in an initial furnace charge. These glasses were prepared by a melt-quenching method. For all glasses a coexistence of drop-like and two-phase interpenetrative structures is observed. The most part of a drop structure is fo...

بررسی خواص اپتیکی شیشه‌های سیستم GeO2-PbO-CaO-SrO در حضور مقادیر مختلف از اکسیدهای کلسیم و استرانسیم

In the present study, the structural, optical and thermal behaviors of GeO2-PbO-CaO-SrO glasses were investigated to achieve the highest optical properties and thermal stability. Accordingly, different 50GeO2-(50-x)PbO-xCaO and 50GeO2-(50-x)PbO-xSrO (x=0, 10, 20) germanate glasses were prepared by the conventional melt and quench technique between two steel sheets. The produced samples were cha...

SEM and AFM Studies of Two-Phase Magnetic Alkali Borosilicate Glasses

The morphology and composition of four types of two-phase alkali borosilicate glasses with magnetic atoms prepared by inductive melting have been studied. The results of scanning electron microscopy point to uniform distribution of Na, Si, and O atoms in these samples while magnetic iron atoms form ball-shaped agglomerates. The magnetic properties of these agglomerates have been confirmed by ma...

The Relationship between Structural and Optical Properties of GeO2-PbO Glasses

The structural and optical characterization of bulk GeO2-PbO glasses was the goal of this study. In this regard, six different (100-x)GeO2‌-xPbO (15<x<45) glasses were prepared by conventional melt quenching technique between two steel sheets. The produced samples were characterized using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) and UV-Vis s...
